Mr. Paul D. Mills

May 17, 1939 - January 28, 2011

Paul D. "P.D." Mills, 71, of North Vernon passed away at 4:05 pm Friday, January 28, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born May 17, 1939 in North Vernon, P.D. was the son of John and Mildred King Mills. He married Sharon Johnson March 11, 1961. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1997. He married Susan Mathis on June 29, 2002.

Mr. Mills worked at and co-owned the Iron Clad Clothing Store in North Vernon with his father for thirty years. He later opened Mills Carpet Cleaning and Sales which his son Darren now operates. He served in the United States Air Force, and was a charter member and Elder at Christ's Way Christian Church. He was a hunter, and he enjoyed fishing, especially during an annual trip to Minnesota. He also liked watching his grandchildren play baseball.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Mathis Mills of North Vernon; three sons, Doug (Tami), Scott, and Darren (Holly) Mills of North Vernon; one daughter, Kellie (Stew) Mills Stewart of Charlotte, NC; step-sons, Darren (Michelle), and Erik Mathis of North Vernon; grandchildren Derek, Vanessa, Bryson, Megan, Cameron, and Austin Mills, and Makenzee and Liam Stewart; step-grandchildren, Jesse, Bradley, Shelby, Dustin, Meranda, and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sharon and one brother, John L. Mills.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 2, 2011 at Christ's Way Christian Church in North Vernon. The Rev. Dan Denney will officiate. Interment and military graveside rites will be at Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 pm Monday at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home and from 10 am until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
