Mr. Norman Anthony Kirchner

April 23, 1926 - July 17, 2014

Norman Anthony Kirchner, 88, of Columbus, passed away at 8:17 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Born April 23, 1926, in North Vernon, Norman was the son of the late Bernard and Anna Sensback Kirchner. He married Sarah Riley on March 25, 1964, and she preceded him in death on August 31, 1991.

Norman served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in Patton's Third Army in Germany. He retired from North Vernon Forge after 18 years of employment. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW Post #2021. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, fishing and walking his dogs.

Survivors include daughter, Norma Jean Kirchner of Columbus; granddaughter, Sara Ann Smith of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; sister, Josephine Eder; and eight brothers, Clarence, Paul, Harry, Bernard, Harold, Alouisious, Charles and Donald Kirchner.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at St. Mary's Church in North Vernon. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
