Obituary

Norine Lucile Eggleston, 94, of North Vernon passed away at 11:05 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019 at home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Services. Rev. Marvin Sweet and Rev. Joe Wyatt will officiate. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019.

Born May 16, 1925, in Mercedes, Texas, Norine was the daughter of the late Warnock and Ada Belle (Moon) McClelen. She was married to Donald Eggleston on April 20, 1945 in San Antonio, Texas. He precedes her in death.

After graduating from Mercedes High School Norine briefly studied voice in San Antonio with a view toward an Opera career. She worked as a long-distance telephone operator and later as Head Clerk in the Separation Department at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas during WWII. In the late 1950's she worked at the sample department and outlet store at Regal Rugs before opening The Stationers Mart. She was the Co-owner/Manager of The Stationers Mart, Inc. with her husband Don for 26+ years.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, and Eastern Star. Norine was a founding member of the Jennings County Players. She loved spending time with her family, singing, listening to audiobooks, genealogy, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Norine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was described by her grandson with a smile as his "Tough, Texas Grandma." She was very proud of being a Texan and her Scots/Irish heritage. With her husband and youngest daughter, she made trips to Ireland and Scotland.

Norine will be deeply missed by daughter, Bette Eggleston of North Vernon; grandson, Don (Cammie) Anderson of Newburgh; granddaughter, Rebecca (Mike) Dickerson of Carmel; great grandchildren, Olivia and Isaac Anderson, Alex and Tiffany Dickerson; 5 nieces; 5 nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; son in-law, Frank Anderson of Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carol Anderson; sisters, Winifred McClelen, Eloise Palmer, Frances "Penny" Russell, and Sara Haak; brother, John McClelen.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church or to whatever charity or institution the donor would wish to make a contribution.
