Nettie G. Speer Anderson, 98, of North Vernon passed away at 11:22 pm Sunday, September 27, 2009 at Jennings Health Care Center.
Born in Jennings County June 20, 1911, Nettie was the daughter of George and Minnie Robbins Campfield. She married Willard Speer July 29 1929. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1976. She then married Lloyd Anderson on July 6, 1978. He died July 23, 1996.
Nettie retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she was a food supervisor in 1973 after fifteen years of work. The rest of her life was spent being a homemaker. She loved baking pies, making noodles and quilting. She was a 65 year member of Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Brotherhood of Railroaders, volunteered as a Gray Lady at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, and was a member of the North Vernon Senior Citizens.
She is survived by daughters, Bonnie Kelly of North Vernon, and Sheila (Joe) Crehan of Naples, FL; sons, Kenneth (Ann) Speer of Sun City, FL, Dr. Edgar (Lola) Speer of Columbus, Wesley (Dee) Anderson of Richmond, VA, Paul (Shirley) Anderson of Jeffersonville, IN, and John (Carol) Anderson of French Lick; grandchildren, Debra Ritz, Sandra Cantrell, David Speer, Marylin Pritchard, Ronald Speer, Patrick Anderson, Tyrone Anderson, Tammy Smith, Tim Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Evan Anderson, Kerry Mc.Cawley, and Christa Crehan; 18 great-grandchildren; and 9 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, four brothers, and grandchildren, Pamela Brooks, Stephen Robbins, and Stephen Anderson.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 am Friday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday and from 10 am until the time of service on Friday. An Order of Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
