Narvell E. Rowell, 88 of Commiskey, passed away at 11:10 am on Friday, August 7, 2009 at Thornton Terrace Health Care Center of Hanover.
Born December 20, 1920 in Lovett, IN he was the son of the late James Walter and Lottie Ochs Rowell. He was a graduate of Paris Crossing High School in 1940. He then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served in active duty in the American and European Theatre for three years, five months, and five days aboard the USS PC 545. Upon his return home he married Lucille Baker in 1945.
Narvell had worked for Cincinnati Testing Lab in Ohio, Dermont Plastic in California, Kaiser Electronics, and Conn Organ. He retired in 1985 from the Madison State Hospital. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and caring for wildlife.
He is survived by his wife Lucille, a son, Ron (Kristi) Rowell of Commiskey, three daughters, Carolyn (Warren) Laufer of Commiskey, Susan (Richard) Leahigh of Commiskey, and Constance Basham of Deputy, ten grandchildren, Warren Scott, Jamie, and Jeremy Laufer, Jody, Matt, and Faye Rowell, Quentin and Courtney Leahigh, and Abby and Amy Basham, six great-grandchildren, Dalton, Erin, Layne, Emma, and Will Laufer, and Brezden Leahigh.
Mr. Rowell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Franklin Rowell and a sister, Minnie Righthouse.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Ochs officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday and from 10 am until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial and military honors will be at Tea Creek Cemetery.
