It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Albert Nelson, 62, of North Vernon. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Mike was born on March 16, 1964, in Seymour. He was the only son of Patti and Darrell Funke Nelson. He passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at home with his family.

As a dedicated farmer, Mike poured his heart and soul into his work. He had a deep passion for the land and cherished the time spent with his cows and other animals. Alongside his love for farming, Mike had an unshakable affection for trucks and trains, always finding joy in the rumble of machinery and the beauty of the countryside. Before becoming a full-time farmer, he worked with his father plastering walls and ceilings all over Jennings County.

He is survived by his wonderful wife, Robin Nelson, his son Derek Nelson and daughter-in-law Emily Nelson, and his cherished grandchildren: Avilynn, Tinsley, Jules, and Jack. He also leaves behind his loving aunt, Karen White, and uncle, Jim White.

Family and friends are invited to join us for a public visitation at the Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM. until 6:00 PM.

Mike's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His connection to the earth and his love for family will be deeply missed. We hope to gather together to celebrate his life, sharing stories and fond memories as we honor this remarkable man.

Mike was preceded in death by his son, Darrell Nelson; parents, Patti and Darrell Nelson.
