Michael "Mike" "Fish" Fishburn, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, nephew, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 14, 2026, at the age of 66. While our hearts are broken by his loss, we are forever grateful for the years, memories, laughter, and love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Family and friends may visit from 3:00 PM until the time of the celebration.
Mike was born on November 12, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to his loving parents, Emma Brown and Gerald Fishburn. He graduated from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis and, following in his father's footsteps, proudly became a union painter. For 30+ years, Mike left his mark across Indianapolis through his craft. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping paint the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a testament to the dedication and pride he took in his work.
Mike was preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law, Earl "Pap" Johnson, whom he adored dearly; his mother-in-law, Verna "Tootsie" Johnson; his stepfather, Alan Brown; his stepson, Alan Gross; and many cherished aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
An avid fisherman, Mike could often be found with a fishing pole in his hand, eagerly waiting for the bobber to disappear beneath the water. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching golf, never missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite players. Mike was happiest when he was busy-whether making crafts, working on vehicles, or tinkering with tools in his garage. Even during his hospitalization, his sense of humor never faded. He began recording his own jokes, leaving behind laughter and memories for his family to treasure for years to come.
Above all else, Mike will be remembered for the immense love he had for his family and friends. His kindness, strength, and unwavering support touched countless lives. His memory will live on through the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he leaves behind.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Sharon Fishburn of North Vernon, Indiana; his loving daughters, Heedien Fishburn of North Vernon and Amanda Fishburn of Indianapolis, Indiana; and his parents, Emma Brown and Gerald Fishburn (Betty) of Indianapolis, Indiana. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Jerry Fishburn, Bob Fishburn (Renee), Traci Fishburn, Jeff Fishburn (Laura), all of Indianapolis.
He leaves behind his stepdaughter, Angie Johnson (Kevin), and his beloved grandchildren, Cody Johnson of Seymour, Indiana; Cheyenne Blevins (Adam) of Brownstown, Indiana; and Anna Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as his treasured great-grandson, Rhett Blevins of Brownstown, Indiana. Mike is also lovingly remembered by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Though we will miss hearing him answer to "Fish," seeing his smile, and sharing in the passions he loved so dearly, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and devotion will live on through all who knew and loved him.
Mike, you will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Those we love don't go away;
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near.
