Michael R. "Smiley" Smith

September 14, 1954 - October 27, 2008

Michael R. "Smiley" Smith, 54, of North Vernon, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008, at his residence.

Born September 14, 1954 in Seymour, he was the son of George and Betty Jeanne Estell Smith, they preceded him in death.

Mr. Smith was a 1972 graduate of Jennings County High School, where he also played football. He owned and operated Smith's Floor Coverings for several years. Mr. Smith was a member of the Masonic Lodge #59, Rolling Hills Shrine Club, North Vernon Eagles, and the Seymour Elks Club. He formerly worked as a Deputy and dispatcher for the Jennings County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Smith was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan, and enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Mr. Smith is survived by four children; Natalee (Jerry) Hahn of Queen Creek, AZ, John R. (Sara Morgan) Smith of Butlerville, Katelyn Smith and Chad Smith both of North Vernon, one brother, Tom (Janis) Smith of CA, a sister, Barbara (Rick) Patterson of North Vernon, and six grandchildren; Tyler, Maycee, Clay, Laynee, Brody Michael and Baylee.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, George and Betty Jeanne Estell Smith.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, November 3, 2008 at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Bart Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Graham Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
