Mr. Michael Fortner

January 26, 1944 - October 02, 2012

Michael Fortner, 68, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:35 AM on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born January 26, 1944 in Jennings County, Michael was the son of the late Harold and Leah Folsom Fortner. He served in the National Guards for 6 years as a TURRET Tank Mechanic. Mr. Fortner retired from Cummins Engine Company after 30 years of employment.
Michael was a proud Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed shooting and riding motorcycles. His greatest joy though was his family.
Survivors include, four daughters, Karen Fortner of Lawrenceburg, Lisa Bedel, Melissa Chadd, and Michelle Fortner all of North Vernon, a son, Dennis Fortner of Seymour, five sisters, Diana McRae of North Vernon, Elaine Bass of Fishers, Judy Villegis of Southport, Rose Thompson of Illinois, and Shelia Osbourne of Indianapolis, a brother Steve Fortner of Illinois, and a step-mother, Carol Fortner of Fishers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Leah, a son, William Michael Fortner and a brother, Preston Fortner.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service on Friday, October 5, 2012 at 4:30 PM with Rev. John Willis officiating. Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until the time of the service. Cremation is planned after the service.
