Merle Lacey, 71, of North Vernon passed away at 12:10 PM Friday, July 10, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born March 16, 1944, in Jennings County, Merle was the son of Leroy and Bertha Beam Lacey.
He was a member of Rush Branch United Methodist Church. He retired from Stadler's in Columbus, and then worked for many years as a truck driver for the Jennings County Highway Department. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, dancing, going to casinos and especially spending time with family and playing cards.
Mr. Lacey is survived by three daughters, Melanie Alcorn of North Vernon, Cheryl (Kevin) Birge of Dupont, and Merlina (Dan) Harper of North Vernon; one son, Leslie (Brandy) Lacey of North Vernon; sisters, Deloris Hilbert, Betty Hawkins, and Pat Canary of North Vernon; brothers, Leroy and Earl Lacey of North Vernon; grandchildren, Julie Chatham, Mackenze Alcorn, Matt Birge, Tristan Imel, Althea Harper, Samantha, Ashley, and Jamee Lacey; great grandchildren, Phoenix Templeton, Skylar Templeton, Bryden Alcorn, Blakelee Birge, Jake Birge, Taylor-Austyn Imel, Lily Eggers, and Aubrie McCarty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, James, Frank, Robert, and Charles Lacey; sister, Dorothy Combest; and one grandson, Greg Alcorn.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. George Haysler and Rev. Pat Canary will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Rush Branch Cemetery.
