Mrs. Mary Josephine Wahlman

September 29, 1926 - November 06, 2012

Mary Josephine Wahlman, 86, of Butlerville, passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at her residence.

Born September 29, 1926, Mary Jo was the daughter of the late Clay and Letha Quillen Kinman. She was later adopted by the late George and Daisy Pribble Schumann. She graduated from Dupont High School in 1944. She married Ronald Wahlman on November 14, 1945. He survives.

Mary Jo was a homemaker. She was a member of Graham Baptist Church for 70 years, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, Clerk, Treasurer, Historian, and Homecoming Coordinator for several years. She belonged to the Ethel Morris Missionary Circle. Mary Jo served on the Jennings County Welfare Committee, was a 4-H leader. She co-authored of the book, "Memories of Bigger Township." She was the Rabbit Plains and San Jacinto news correspondent for the North Vernon Plain Dealer since the 1950's. She was always interested in politics, genealogy, painting and local history.

In addition to her husband, Mary Jo is survived by a daughter, Leanne (Vince) Rettig of Greensburg; three sons, Larry (Judy) Wahlman of Dupont, Richard (Susan) Wahlman of Butlerville, and Joseph (Jill) Wahlman of North Vernon; sister, Shirley Burns of Owensboro, KY; brother, Howard Kinman of Louisville, KY; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harvey Kinman; sisters, Rosa Webster, Opal Haines, and Mabel Ashby; and granddaughter, Karen Wahlman.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation service in North Vernon. Rev. Donald Buck and Rev. Richard Burcham will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 8, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graham Baptist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of Jennings County, Graham Baptist Cemetery or Graham Baptist Church.
