It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Jane Vogel, who left us peacefully on September 21, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on October 3, 1939, to Frances and Geneva (Nichter) Horstman. She married Clarence Vogel on November 26, 1959. Clarence and Mary Jane enjoyed 65 years of wedded bliss. He proceeded her in death on April 11, 2025.

She and Clarence are the parents of Karen Koop, Debra (John) Carroll and David (Jenny) Vogel. Mary Jane loved her grandchildren Scott Richardson, Kevin (Stephanie) Richardson, Laura (Braden) Adams, Emily Richardson, Eileen (Zach) Rohrbach, John (Lindsey Daum) Carroll, Ashley (Shane) Lakins, Allison (Evan) Hurr, Amy (Sylas Applegate) Vogel and Andrew Vogel. She has 10 great grandchildren, Caroline, James, Mary and Lillian Rohrbach, Raven, Ivy, and Adeline Adams, Alexandra Richardson, Madisyn Lakins and Amelia Hurr. Mary Jane is also survived by brother-in-law, Gilbert (Joyce) Vogel and sister-in-law Rebecca Vogel, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Leonard Elsner, sister Judy Stutsman, and niece Martha Vogel.

Mary Jane embodied the principles of faith and family. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and the St. Joseph Rosary Society. She was a devoted homemaker and farm wife, tending to her garden and flowers while delivering numerous meals to the fields.

In honor of Mary Jane's remarkable life, the family will be holding funeral services to celebrate her journey. A rosary will be prayed at 3:30 pm on Thursday, September 24 with visitation following from 4 pm to 8 pm at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana. A funeral mass will be conducted by Father Chris Craig and Father Bobby Vogel on Friday, September 25 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:00 am with burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
