Mary Catherine "Katy" Matthews, 82, of Columbus, formerly of North Vernon passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the home of her daughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Chris Craig will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 3:30 PM on Thursday at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with visitation following from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Born on May 23, 1944, Katy was the daughter of Fred and Mary Speer Biehle. She married Roy Matthews on June 9, 1962. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2018.
Katie was a graduate of Vernon High School. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Model A Restorers Club of Columbus, Model A Ford Club of America, Ramey's Wagon Trail & Trail Riders. She was active in the Democrat party and worked the polls for elections. She had sold Tupperware and Avon Products for several years. In recent years she found joy in making rosaries, crafts, and horseback riding.
Katy is survived by her companion, Ronnie Lawson of Columbus; daughters, Teresa (Tim) Miracle of Columbus, Tina (Tim) Pearson of North Vernon, Karla Vance of Dupont, Gracie (Ralph) Guenthenspberger, and Kelly (Jose) Gonzalez of North Vernon; brothers, Bill Biehle of Billings, Mt., and Andy Biehle of North Vernon; sisters, Freda Henry of Seymour, and Leona Fenbers of FL; fourteen grandchildren, and twenty two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Biehle; husband, Roy Matthews; daughter, Lisa Goad; sisters, Edna Egan, Amy Ellington, and Rebecca Biehle; sons in law, Doug Morrow, Richard Goad, Mike Taskey, and Charles Danny Vance Jr.; granddaughter, LaDawn Vance.
Memorials may be made in Katy's memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, or Mercy Rescue and Adoption through the funeral home.
