Mrs. Mary R. Greathouse

Mary R. Greathouse, 92, of North Vernon, passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

Born September 24, 1920, in Madison, IN, Mary was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Opal Kessler Poindexter. She married Donald Greathouse. He preceded her in death.

In her earlier years, Mary worked at Greathouse Hardware. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, and the ladies' golf league at Muscatatuck Country Club. She enjoyed playing golf and oil painting.

Survivors include two sons, John (Holli) Greathouse of North Vernon, and Jack (Christi Hassen) Greathouse of Glenwood Springs, CO; four daughters, Jo Ann (Tom) Graff of Missoula, MT, Jan (Tim) Gwin of North Vernon, Jill (Doug Holman) Greathouse of Scottsburg, and Jeanie Greathouse of North Vernon; one sister, Ziddy Matthews of Hanover; 9 grandchildren and13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Hertz, and two brothers, Bill and Charles Poindexter.

Funeral Information

A graveside service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Judy Malone will officiate.
