Mary Renae Clarkson, 61, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at First United Methodist Church of North Vernon with visitation conducted from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. Marvin Sweet will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6th at First United Methodist Church, as well. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Born March 24, 1957 in Peru, IN, Mary Renae was the daughter of Wendell and Carol Long Azbell. She married Thomas Clarkson on October 16, 1976 and he survives.
She graduated from Jennings County High School in 1975. She worked at Wal-Mart Pharmacy in Columbus and had previously worked for a period of 18 years at various local banks, including National City Bank, Home Federal and Indiana Bank & Trust. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Mary Renae enjoyed time with her grandchildren, visiting friends and helping others. She had been a former volunteer with Hospice and had recently begun sewing and quilting again.
Renae is survived by her husband, Thomas Clarkson of North Vernon; parents, Wendell and Carol Azbell of North Vernon; two daughters, Amanda Spurgeon (Brian Dickson) of Greensburg and Rachel Clarkson (Zachary McCrory) of Columbus; sister, Sonja Mills of North Vernon; brother, Troy Azbell of North Vernon; grandchildren, Brendan and Ruby Spurgeon and Rileigh and Kal'el Dickson.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Brooks Spurgeon.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church or donor's choice of charity.
