Mrs. Mary A. Cheesebrew

July 29, 1915 - December 22, 2010

Mary A. Cheesebrew, 95, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:51 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Mary was born on July 29, 1915, in Jennings County, to the late William Thomas Pearl and Anna (Dickerson) Pearl. She married Lewis Cheesebrew on September 11, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1996.

She retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in 1971 after 20 years. She also worked at the USDA office in Jennings County. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella at St. Mary's. She was a life member of the Moose Lodge, Royal Neighbors of America, and the Oakdale Community Club. She enjoyed water aerobics, painting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Edythe Stilwell of Seymour and Mary Jean Todd of North Vernon; one son, Floyd Cheesebrew of North Vernon; sixteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, Richard, John and Gerald Cheesebrew; one granddaughter, Glenda Matern; three great-grandchildren, Stacy Matern, Corbin Cheesebrew and Clyde Knoll, Jr.

Funeral Information

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jonathan Meyer will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. A rosary service will be conducted Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
