Mary Jo Abrell, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:38 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

There will be a graveside service conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on August 17, 1944, in Washington, IN., Mary was the loving daughter of James and Dorothy (Clauss) Walford. She was united in marriage to Joe Abrell on May 7, 1966. He survives.

Mary graduated from Washington Catholic High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed planting flowers, making crafts, and bird watching.

In addition to Mary's husband, Joe Abrell of North Vernon, survivors include sons, James (Robin) Abrell, Matt (Paula) Abrell, and Tom Abrell all of North Vernon; sister, Margy Walford of Washington; grandchildren, Heather, Autumn, and Caleb Abrell; great grandchildren, Leah and Lucas Eder.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Dorothy Walford; brothers, Wesley and Dick Walford.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to either St. Mary's Catholic Church OR St. Mary's catholic School.
