Mr. Marvin R. Proffitt

February 14, 1957 - July 19, 2013

Marvin R. Proffitt, 56, of Louisville, formerly of North Vernon, passed away on July 19, 2013, at Jennings Healthcare Center.

Born February 14, 1957, in Goose Rock, KY, Marvin was the son of the late Melvin and Gladys Marcum Proffitt.

Marvin served in the United States Army. He had previously been employed at Hatton's Carpet and as a food server at the homeless shelter. He had also been employed at Wheaton's in Westport and at Bartholomew County Beverage Company for several years. He loved music, wrestling, spending time with his family and spending time on the river front in Louisville. Marvin had a zest for life, and never met a stranger.

Survivors include six sisters, Sue and Anna Proffitt, Mabel Sharp and Donna Garrett, all of North Vernon, Tilly Spurlock and Phoebe Findley, both of Seymour; aunt, Mattie Spurlock; sister-in-law, Sandy Lewis; seven nephews and two nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sister, Ida Mae Samson; five brothers, Johnny and Therman Proffitt, Silas, Howard and Thomas Spurlock; and uncle, MC Spurlock.

Funeral Information

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate.Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be at Baldwin Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 2021.
