IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Jean
Kinney-Mccarnan
January 5, 1924 – December 8, 2014
Mrs. Martha Jean Kinney-McCarnan
January 05, 1924 - December 08, 2014
Martha Jean Kinney-McCarnan, 90, of North Vernon, passed away peacefully, on Monday, December 8, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born January 5, 1924, in North Vernon, Martha was the daughter of Noe and Verna More. She was one of eight children. Martha married Delbert Phillips and was widowed in their first year of marriage. She married Carl Kinney, and they were married for over 50 years, until he passed away on October 3, 1995. In 2000, she married Fred McCarnan. He preceded her in death in 2012.
If there ever was an ideal matriarch of a family, it was Martha. Her main loves in life were her family and friends, which she visited regularly. She enjoyed sewing, crewel stitching and gardening. Martha Jean ran a beauty shop on her back porch for 30 years. She worked as the seamstress for the former business, Ray's Cleaners. Martha was always taking in stray cats and dogs, and was unable to turn her back without at least feeding them.
Survivors include son, Pat (Debbie) Kinney of North Vernon; younger brother, Noe More; older sister, Elizabeth Graham-Stouffer of Scottsburg; six grandchildren, Scott (Sandy McVey) Phillips of Zenas; Patti (Roy) Houston of Bloomington, IL, Carri (Matt) Cocking of Chandler, AZ, and Paula (Kevin) Miller, Kati (Matt) Gosman, and Jeannie Burgmeier, all of North Vernon; 14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; two sons, Steve (Alice) Phillips and Tom (Ruth) Kinney; and several brothers and sisters.
