Martha Irene Eden, 79, of Anderson, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 3:21 p.m., on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Anderson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Family will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home.
Born on January 6, 1945, in North Vernon, Martha was the loving daughter of Louis Carl and Mary Hazel (Biehle) Gearries. She was united in marriage to Ralph Eden on February 6, 1966. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1998.
Martha graduated from North Vernon High School in 1963. She began her career as a direct service tech with the Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in August 1974, retiring in May 2003. Martha loved playing cards, board games, and especially bingo with her family. She enjoyed watching a variety of sports, never missing the IU basketball games and was an Indiana Fever Fan, she also enjoyed the Indianapolis Colts Football, and all the Jennings County Panther sports. Martha was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who was always self-sacrificing.
Left to cherish Martha's memory is daughters, Pamela (Tony) Davis of North Vernon, Angela (Angie Strickler) Eden of Anderson, and Sandra (Brad) Kirchner of North Vernon; sisters, Starlene (Dan) Ross of North Vernon, Donna (Joe) Lunsford of Texas, and Julie Gearries of North Vernon; grandchildren, Nathan, Kyle, and Briar Davis, Ashley Eden, Trent Scifres, Sydney, Kylee, Lane, and Luke Kirchner; great grandchildren, Emmi Reed, and Lydia Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Gearries; husband, Ralph Eden; son, Steven Ray Eden; brother, Louis Gearries Jr.; sisters, Mary Lou Baldwin, and Ruth Skelton.
Memorial donations can be made through the funeral home to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
