Marsha Lynne McMurtrey, 74, of Somerville, AL, formerly of North Vernon, passed away at 10:57 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Morgan County, AL.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Jim Terry will officiate. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.
Born on October 4, 1948, in Jennings County, Marsha was the loving daughter of Lewis Frank and Madge (McNeeley) Jines. She was united in marriage to William N. McMurtrey on December 23, 1967 in Alabama. He preceded her in death on August 24, 1968.
Marsha had been the manager at Friendly Fosters and worked at US Shoe Factory. She retired from the Muscatatuck Developmental State Center as a DST. She enjoyed working puzzles, gardening, and collecting antiques. Most of all, Marsha loved and cherished spending her time with her grandchildren.
Marsha will be deeply missed by her daughters, Carol Turner, Emmie (Nathan) Greene, and Mary McMurtrey all of Somerville, AL; grandchildren, Adrian (Dymond) McMurtrey of North Vernon, Carmen McMurtrey of North Vernon, Kimberly Reynolds of Somerville, AL, Michael (Cami) Reynolds of North Vernon, Alexis Reynolds of Somerville, AL, and Hunter Reynolds of Somerville, AL, and CJ (Becca) Reynolds of Scottsburg; great grandchildren, Bentley Roberts of Scottsburg, Kennedi Reynolds of Scottsburg, and Carmariya Isbell of North Vernon; brother, Larry (Pam) Jines of North Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Madge Jines; husband, William McMurtrey; companion, Karl "Mouse" Brandenburg; son, Carl McMurtrey; sisters, Bertha Parrish, Marjorie Marshall, Grace Ramey, and Leila E. Mitchell; brothers, Michael, Marvin, Donald, and Frank Jines.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Gideons International or the Riley Children's Hospital.
