Obituary

Marilyn Marie Goodpaster, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:43 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2022, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Mark Sorrels, and Rev. Tim Goodpaster will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service on Friday.

Born on November 28, 1939, in North Vernon, Marilyn was the loving daughter of Raymond "Bud" and Dorothy Louise (Messmer) Short. She was united in marriage to Calvin Goodpaster on June 30, 1957. He survives.

Marilyn retired from the US Department of Agriculture. She also did taxes for many years. Calvin and Marilyn were married at the Zion Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of the Zion Baptist Church where she played the organ for many years for church services and funeral services. She enjoyed going to Jennings County High School basketball games. Most of all, Marilyn cherished spending quality time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Calvin Goodpaster of North Vernon, she is survived by her sons, Mike (Cindy) Goodpaster, Pat Goodpaster all of North Vernon, and Tim (Sally) Goodpaster of Seymour; brother, Raymond (Connie) Short of San Clemente, CA; sister, Judy (Larry) Wahlman of Dupont; grandchildren, Chad Goodpaster, Niki (Tyson) Woods, Jason (Jessica Lewis) Goodpaster, Maggie (Aaron) Fox, Tyler (Erin) Goodpaster, Michael (Ariel) Goodpaster, Bryan (Sarah) Goodpaster, Frankie (Trey) Gilpin, and Rylee Goodpaster; great grandchildren, Kayla (Tyler) Wilkins, Payton (Elizabeth Safley) Goodpaster, Chloe Brookbank, Lucy Goodpaster, Drake Goodpaster, Hunter Goodpaster, Auslyn Vanderbur, Ayden Vanderbur, Journey Littrell, Miley Fox, Abby Fox, Alivia Fox, Bryson Goodpaster, Harvey Goodpaster, Konner Ruark, and Avery Gilpin; great great grandchild, Kinsley Wilkins.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond "Bud" and Dorothy Short; brother, Roger Short; sister, Selma Ann Short.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation or the Zion Baptist Church.
