Mrs. Marie Schwacke

August 28, 1908 - June 06, 2011

Marie Schwacke, 102 of Columbus and formerly of North Vernon passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011 at her residence in Columbus.

Born on August 28, 1908 in Hayden, Marie was the daughter of the late John B. and Mary Megel Haley. She married Charles Schwacke and he preceded her in death. Marie attended Columbus Business College and employed in earlier years at Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis.

Mrs. Schwacke had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she volunteered and was involved in the Daughters of Isabella and St. Vincent DePaul. She had been a 4-H leader for twenty years and enjoyed gardening, flowers, and sewing.

Marie is survived by four daughters, Carole Marshall of Columbus, Anne (Ronald) Koontz of Harbor Springs, MI, Jane Hillerson of Scottsdale, AZ, and Frances (Lawrence) Framme of Richmond, VA, ten grandchildren, Charles Koontz, J. Scott Koontz, Michelle Reichert, Christina Koontz (Zaenglein), Angela Marshall, Jennifer Manns, Thomas Marshall Jr., Larry Framme, Jessica Smith, and Hayes Framme, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Walter, Louis, and Raymond Haley; four sisters, Mable Chandler, Marie Haley, Estelle Haley, and Irene Haley and a son-in-law, Alan Hillerson.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Vernon with Rev. Jonathan Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with a Rosary Service at 3:30 pm. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
