Mrs. Margaret Cummings

October 17, 1929 - May 27, 2011

Margaret Cummings, 81, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born October 17, 1929, in Zenas, IN, she was the daughter of Ira and Ellen Suhre Vanosdol. In 1949, she married Perry Cummings. He preceded her in death on May 13, 1992.

Margaret was employed as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell, as a jail matron for the Jennings County Sheriff's Department from 1965 to 1972, and also worked at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She enjoyed spending time with children and grandchildren, gardening and flowers, and watching sports.

She is survived by three sons, Kenny (Stella) Cummings of North Vernon, Bill (Barbara) Cummings of Scipio and Dennis (Mary Kay) Cummings of Dupont; a daughter, Joyce (Tracy) Beam of Dupont; three brothers, Bob and Jim Vanosdol of Butlerville, and Frank Vanosdol of Holton; two sisters, Mary Cornett of Westport and Alice Sporleder of North Vernon; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Danny Cummings, and a brother, Charles Vanosdol.

Funeral Information

A funeral will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011 at, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until the time of service Monday. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Vernon Cemetery.
