Mr. Lyndel R. Powers

November 15, 1940 - December 13, 2015

Lyndel R. Powers, 75, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:09 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

Born November 15, 1940, Lyndel was the son of the late Lawrence Guy and Stellia Izella (Graham) Powers.

Lyndel served in the United States Army. He retired from Columbus Container, and had also been employed at Cosco and Swifty. He enjoyed hunting, turtle fishing and NASCAR.

Survivors include a son, Mike Powers of Columbus; three daughters, Shari (Keven) Burton and Carla (Jeff) Wright, both of North Vernon, and Crystal (Chris) Stall of Columbus; two brothers, Charles Thomas Powers of North Vernon, and Lynn Rarey of Florida; a sister, Ethel Mae Scott of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sons, Thomas Dewayne Powers, Paul Powers and Lyndel Powers, Jr.; sister, Adelle Skaggs; brother, Ray Ogle; and granddaughter, Heather Watkins.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. Burial and military graveside rites will be in Vernon Cemetery.
