Leroy Sanders, 84, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, November 13, 2015 at his residence.
Born December 29, 1930, in Lincoln County, KY, Leroy was the son of the late Albert and Sarah (Miles) Sanders. He graduated from Holton High School, and on May 28, 1951, he married Marna Pauls. She survives.
Leroy served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked in construction until his retirement. He was a member of Graham Baptist Church and North Vernon Baptist Church. He started the PTO at Scipio Elementary School and was its first president, and was a founding member of the Panther Big Blue Club. He enjoyed construction, woodworking, watching sports, socializing with friends over morning coffee. Above all he enjoyed time spent with his family.
In addition to his wife, Marna, Leroy is survived by seven sons, Randal Sanders of Flippin, AR, Ricky (Kathy) Sanders of Columbus, Rusty (Pam) Sanders of Indianapolis, Ronald (Angie) Sanders of North Vernon, Rodney (Ronda) Sanders of North Vernon, Roger (Kristi) Sanders of Franklin, and Rex Sanders of North Vernon; daughter, Tammy (Dan) Hill of North Vernon; brother, John Sanders of Franklin; 17 grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margaret Thornberry, Leona Kroll and Betty Barnsfather; and brother, William Sanders.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Kendall Wildey will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or the Sanders Strong Fund.
