Leila Ellen Mitchell, 75, of North Vernon, passed away on Friday, February 03, 2017, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon.  Rev. James Terry and Rev. Kent Stroud will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born January 26, 1942, in Jennings County, Leila was the daughter of the late Lewis and Madge McNeely Jines, Sr. She graduated from North Vernon High School and married Roy L. Mitchell on June 18, 1966.  He survives.

Leila was a homemaker and member of North Vernon Wesleyan Church.  She enjoyed ball games, listening to gospel music and being with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Roy, Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, Stephen (Erin) Mitchell of Dupont; three daughters, Deborah (Glen) Carney of North Vernon, Amelia Suhre of Louisville, and Amanda (David) Bryant of Dupont; a brother, Larry (Pam) Jines of Vernon; a sister, Marsha McMurtrey of North Vernon; a half-sister, Grace Ramey of North Vernon; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Madge Jines, Sr.; five brothers, Michael, Donald, Frank, Marvin and Lewis Jines, Jr.; and two half-sisters, Bertha Parrish and Marge Marshall.
