Lawrence Leroy Leahigh

June 12, 1924 - November 16, 2010

Lawrence Leroy Leahigh, 86 of North Vernon passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Born on June 12, 1924 in Jennings County, Leroy was the son of the late Roy and Edith Willoughby Leahigh. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theatre from 1944 to 1945. In February of 1944 he received the Good Conduct Medal and June of 1944 he received the ETO Ribbon with six bronze stars and in July of 1944 he received the Air Medal with six oak leaf clusters and a Presidential Citation. He later married Clarabell Pickett. She survives.
Mr. Leahigh had been a member of Bethel Baptist church for more than 28 years and formerly a member of the Friendship Baptist Church near Paris, TN. He was a Cummins Engine Company retiree and had been a member of the Diesel Workers Union and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021. He had served as the 9th District Commander and also as Post 2021 Commander.
Leroy is survived by his wife Clarabell; two sons, Richard Leahigh of Hampstead, NC and Phillip Leahigh of North Vernon; one daughter, Kay Leahigh - Hale of Cincinnati, OH; six grandchildren, Stephanie Leahigh - Roth, Cortney Leahigh - Cloud, Sara and Christopher Hale, and Steven and Richard Leahigh; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday with visitation from 11 am until the time of the service. Cremation will follow with burial at Butlerville Cemetery at a later date.
