Lawrence W. "Cooter" Matern

Lawrence W. "Cooter" Matern, 50, of North Vernon passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 at his home.

Born May 19, 1960 in Seymour, he was the son of Joseph and Agnes Ebbing Matern. He married Tammy Stahl on May 19, 1998. She survives.

Mr. Matern was a construction worker and worked nearly 20 years for Mark and Linda Erler. He was a member of St. Anne's Church. He enjoyed his family, spending time with grandchildren, fishing, gardening, cruising around the block and hanging out with friends.

He is survived by his mother, Agnes Matern of North Vernon, his wife, Tammy Matern of North Vernon, two sons, Chad and Craig Matern; two daughters, Megan and Morganne Matern all of North Vernon; two granddaughters, Kaylee Palmer and Allison Thompson; three sisters, Patricia (Ron) Kintner, Maryjo (Bob) Kent, Sharon (Tom) Low; four brothers, Donnie (Eileen) Matern, Danny Matern, Roger (Kim) Matern, Chuck (Sheree) Matern all of North Vernon and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Arrangements were made in care of Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home.

Funeral Information

A gathering of friends and relatives will be held on Wednesday from 4-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 3:30 p.m. at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jonathan Meyer officiating at the Funeral Home.
