Karen D. Jones, 77, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:35 a.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at the Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Brother Claude Fouts will officiate. Burial will be in the Butlerville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 and from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at the funeral home.
Born on April 21, 1945, in New Castle, Karen was the loving daughter of John Winchester and Goldie (Barnes) Smith. She was united in marriage to Cecil Jones Jr. on August 28, 1965. He preceded her in death on August 8, 2013.
Karen retired from Muscatatuck State Development Center, where she worked in the dietary department. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting, cooking, and riding horses. Karen made the best fried chicken. Most of all, Karen loved spending time making memories with her family and her dogs Buddy, and Elsa.
Karen will be missed by daughters, Cecelia Jones of North Vernon, Penny (Ricky) Anderson of Commiskey, Crystal (Brent) Bailey of Butlerville, and Brittany Ross of Hayden; sisters, Delores Wagers of Columbus, Joyce Fisher of Seymour, Judy Ford of Columbus, Barbara Royston Winchester, Virginia Turner, and Darlene Stinson all of Kentucky; grandchildren, Krysta Parks, Jacob Turner, Timothy Lacey, Johnathan "John John" Daniels, Ricky Joe Anderson, and Veronica Bailey; and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Winchester and Goldie Smith; husband, Cecil Jones; son, Ryan Lee Ross; sister, Loretta James; brothers, Terry Winchester, Lee Winchester, and John Randall Winchester.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service for expenses.
