Joyce Likens, 88, of Columbus passed away Friday, June 17, 2011 at Silver Oaks Health Care.
Born in Union County, Tennessee, Joyce was the daughter of William Francis and Mary Love Bolinger Snodderly. She married Luther Likens. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Likens was known throughout North Vernon, Indiana as the Quilt Lady because of all the beautiful handmade quilts she made and sold. She learned to quilt with the aid of her grandmother Florence Crank Snodderly and continued it throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling and saw the sights of most of the United States. During WWII, she contributed her part to the war effort by making plane parts in a defense plant in Wilmington, Delaware. She was also employed by the Standard Knitting Mill and A&P Stores of Knoxville, Tennessee. She moved to Indiana in 1966.
She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Woodruff Gray; a son Stephen Randall Woodruff (Kathy); seven grandchildren, Allen Wayne Gray (Kathy), Victoria Gray Cernadas (Mario), Katrina Gray Minichillo (John), Scott Woodruff (Sheila), Robert Woodruff, Travis Woodruff, Jai Woodruff; nine great grandchildren, Mario and Rebecca Cernadas, Giacamo Lyons Minichello, Annika and Abby Woodruff, Logan and Japerian Woodruff, Zarius and Jai Woodruff; a sister, Bonnie Snodderly Onks of North Vernon; nine nephews Jon Scott (Connie), Doug Scott (Jeanne), Kevin Scott, Jim Eubanks (Judy), Danny McLaughlin (Kathy). Mike DeBusk, David Onks (Merilee), DeWayne Snodderly (Patty), DeJon Snodderly (Rose); six nieces, Florence Snodderly, Tina Onks Maschino, Mary Anna Onks, Tonya and Shara Snodderly, Kathy DeBusk Noblett; several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Randolph Woodruff and Luther Likens; and siblings Aulba Lee Snodderly Scott (J V), Pauline Snodderly McLaughlin (Charles), Sneed Russell Snodderly (Lois), R. G. Snodderly (Margaret and Pauline), Nephews Cloyd Hobart Onks, Jr., Charlie and Mark (Mickey) McLaughlin.
Funeral Information
Funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 20, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with the Rev. Danny Bragg officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be at Vernon Cemetery.
