Mr. Joseph F. Siener

November 25, 1938 - June 30, 2009

Joseph F. Siener, 70 of North Vernon, passed away at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Selmier State Forest in North Vernon.

Born on November 25, 1938 in North Vernon, he was the son of the late Arthur and Helen L. Federer Siener. He graduated from North Vernon High School and later married Rita Sue Rhinehart on May 9, 1959. They had three children together.

Mr. Siener had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.. He retired after 39 years with North Vernon City Utilities and the worked with Dave O'Mara Contractor for 12 years. Joe had served on the Natural Resource Commission and the North Vernon Center Township Fire Department for 25 years and spent 6 of those as Chief. He was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Robert Orr.

Mr. Siener is survived by his wife, a son, Andrew Siener of North Vernon, two daughters, Theresa Thompson of Columbus and Marjorie Secrest of Greencastle, ten grandchildren, a brother, Charles Norman Siener of Lafayette, and two sisters, Clara Louise Lauth of Greenwood and Barbara Catherine Diekhoff of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Thomas Siener.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Jonathan Meyer officiating. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 PM at Sawyer ~ Pickett Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 8 PM.
