Johnie S. Walters, 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at his residence.

No services are being held.  Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service has been entrusted with arrangements.

Born June 1, 1951, in Shirley, IN, Johnie was the son of the late Lawrence and Sylvia (Wilson) Walters.  He was married previously to Martha Kuntz who preceded him in death.

He grew up in North Vernon and attended Jennings County High School and Mt. Vernon High School.  Johnie was awarded several blue ribbons in track and cross country while in school.  He served in the U.S. Marines, was employed as a painter, enjoyed fishing and playing horseshoes.

Johnie is survived by one daughter, Amy Bolton of Tacoma, WA; two grandsons, Nathen and Xavier of Tacoma, WA; five sisters, Shirley Billman of Greenfield, Jan Braun of Bethpage, TN, Patsy Calvert and Brenda Arbuckle of North Vernon, and Vickie Tribby of Greenwood; three brothers, Jim Walters of Bicknell, Bobby Walters of Versailles and Michael Walters of Butlerville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his previous wife, Martha Kuntz; and one sister, Ramona Moore.
