John D. Poer

October 13, 1919 - June 24, 2009

John D. Poer, 89 of North Vernon passed away at 3:14 AM on Wednesday morning, June 24, 2009 at Thorton Terrace Health Care of Hanover.

Born on October 13, 1919 in North Vernon, John was the son of the late Delbert and Nancy Pritchett Poer. He later married Helen Reese on May 29, 1943 in Brownstown. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2006. He was a retired supervisor from Arvin Industries.

Mr. Poer had been a member of the North Vernon First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, car races, and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Davis of North Vernon and Shirley Anderson of Jeffersonville, five grandchildren, Debbie McKeand and Brenda Glasson of North Vernon, John Davis of Vernon, Ty Anderson of Charlestown, and Pat Anderson of Memphis, IN, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four brothers, Arthur, Maynard, Walter, and Edgar Poer, and great-great grandson Cameron Burton-Davis.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Friday and from 10 AM until the time of service on Saturday. Interment will be at the Vernon Cemetery.
