John A. Cox

John A. Cox, 84 of Elizabethtown passed away at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at his residence.

Born May 1, 1927 in Ogilville, John was the son of the late John W. and Lula E. Baker Cox. He later served his country in the United States Navy. Mr. Cox married Joyce Pike Miller on September 22, 1983 in Tennessee. He had been employed by Reeves Reliance until he retired on May 1, 1989.

He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cox, three sons, John Cox Jr. of Taylorsville, Ron Cox of Columbus, and Douglas Cox of Madison, two daughters, Connie Denny and Shelly Ferguson both of Columbus, two step-sons, William Lee Burton of Columbus and Rick Burton of Edinburgh, three step-daughters, Melody Austerman and Connie Hook both of Elizabethtown and Teresa Hurt of Seymour, two brothers, Walter Cox of California and Carl Cox of Illinois, two sisters, Sara Missel and Barbara Sherwood, both of Illinois, and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Tom and Clarence Cox, and a sister, Mary Bushy.

Funeral Information

In accordance with his wishes, cremation and a private ceremony will be held at a later date.
