John C. Burke

August 15, 1941 - August 13, 2009

John C. Burke, 67, of North Vernon, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 8:26 a.m. at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital of North Vernon.

Born August 15, 1941 in Vincennes, Indiana, he was the son of the late John and Gladys Ellis Burke. He later married Sylvia Miller on January 12, 1967.

Mr. Burke was an Army veteran and was employed by CSX for 38 years where he was a conductor. He was a member of the Masonic lodge #59 where he was serving as chaplain. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, son, John A. Burke, daughter, Angie Money both of North Vernon, sister, Ann Like of Vincennes and a grandchild, Dana Money.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, James Burke and Ab Petts.

Memorials may be made to the funeral home to the Jennings County ARC or Jennings County United Way.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Monday at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home. Rev. Marvin Sweet will officiate. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday.
