Mr. John W. Browning

January 27, 1926 - February 10, 2014

John W. Browning, 88, of North Vernon, passed away on February 10, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born January 27, 1926, in Paint Lick, KY, John was the son of the late Jake and Nalda Masters Browning. He married Norma Lee Bowling, and she preceded him in death.

John served in the United States Navy in Guam and the Philippines with the Seabees during World War II, and in Alaska during the Korean War. John had owned the Country Music Barn in Deputy. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for J. L. Browning Excavating until he retired. He was a member of VFW Post #2021. He loved playing music.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Debbie) Browning of Deputy and Mike (Lynn) Browning of Abingdon, VA; and grandchildren, Jake, Chris, Scott and Greg Browning, and Gina Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Jeanetta Griffith.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dupont Cemetery, with military graveside honors.
