Joe Murphy

Joe W. Murphy, 79, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at his residence.

Born February 20, 1929 in Butlerville, he was the son of Ted and Edna Huelson Murphy, they preceded him in death, he married Peggy Herr in 1950, she survives.

Mr. Murphy was a graduate of Butlerville High School. He owned and operated Murphy Electric for 45 years. Mr. Murphy was a member of the Butlerville Masonic Lodge and loved to camp and play golf.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Peggy of North Vernon, a son, Mike Murphy of Butlerville, a daughter, Mickey Bland of North Vernon, two sisters, Jane Matthews of Butlerville and Linda Banning of Destin, FL, eight grandchildren; Rob, Don, Alex and Sarah Murphy, Megan Speer, Justin, Matthew and Jacob Bland, and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Edna Murphy, and a son, Pat Murphy.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 23, 2008, at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Harrigan officiating. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 7 PM held by the Butlerville Lodge #219.
