Mr. James Nicholas Gootee

November 25, 1944 - March 23, 2012

James Nicholas Gootee, 67, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:35 PM on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus with his family by his side.
Born November 25, 1944 in Davis County, Jim was the son of the late Moses and Margaret Clause Gootee. He graduated from Vernon High School in 1963 and soon after married Mary Lou DeGlandon on August 17, 1963 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. He retired with over 30 years of service at Cummins Engine Company. After retirement he was employed part-time with Developmental Services Incorporated for three years.
Jim had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was also involved with the Knights of Columbus. In years past, Mr. Gootee had been very involved with volunteering and coaching in various sports as his children and grandchildren grew up. Jim had been an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He enjoyed not only participating in sports, but also watching them. His motivation in life was his love for his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Gootee of North Vernon, three daughters, Lisa Kendall of North Vernon, Rebecca Jo (Scott) Miller of Bloomington, and Shannon (Jason) Arvin of Westfield, ten grandchildren, A.J. and Mattie Kendall, Kelsey, Abigail, Conor and Luke Miller, Jaydan, Savannah, Dakota, and Gabriel Arvin, two brothers, John (Roseann) Gootee of North Vernon, Michael (Mary Jane) Gootee of Vernon, two sisters, Jane (Archie) Carter of Brookville, FL and Elizabeth Colvin of Spring Hill, FL, a sister-in-law, Rose Gootee of North Vernon, and his mother-in-law, Maxine DeGlandon. He will be greatly missed by all.
Mr. Gootee was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Margaret and a brother, Bill Gootee.

Funeral Information

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Jonathan Meyer officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with a Rosary Service at 3:30 PM.
