James Edward Fletcher Sr., 82 of Commiskey passed away at 10:15 am on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his residence.
Born on September 29, 1927 in Casey, Illinois, James was the son of the late Speed and Jean Roe Fletcher. He married Helen McGuire on December 2, 1955 at Wilmington, Illinois.
Mr. Fletcher had worked on the gas pipeline for 24 years, owned and operated Fletcher's Garage in North Vernon for 5 years, and then retired in 1990 from the Jennings County Highway Department where he was a foreman for 13 years. He enjoyed reading his Bible and most of all spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve (Delores) Fletcher of Flatrock, Bill (Sandy) Fletcher and James Fletcher Jr. both of Commiskey; a daughter Carolyn (Albert) Burton of North Vernon; eight grandchildren, Kelly Burton of Fort Campbell, KY, Tonya Burton of Indianapolis, Stephanie Joiner of Edinburgh, J.R. Fletcher of Flatrock, Becky Fletcher of Sebree, KY, Joe Fletcher of Commiskey, Elaine Fletcher of Lexington, IN, and James E. Fletcher III of North Vernon; 18 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (Jean) Fletcher of Lovett and Billy Joe (Pat) Fletcher of North Vernon; two sisters, Marie (Ranson) Carnahan of Sardinia and Ina Mae (James) Baxter of Jacksonville, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Max Fletcher, a sister, Leona Thompson and a grandson Albert T. Burton Jr.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11 am with Rev. Larry Dalton officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday and from 10 am until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
