James M. Belding, 88, of Butlerville, passed away at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, January 9, 2023, at home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Steve Bertram will be officiating. Burial and military graveside rites will be held in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the funeral home.
Born on April 13, 1934, in Seymour, Jim was the loving son of James and Lucille (Olmstead) Belding. He was united in marriage to Norma Bridges on December 18, 1962. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2011.
After graduating high school, Jim went on to served his country proudly in the United States Army. After leaving the service he attended the Anderson University, finishing at Butler University with a business degree. Jim was the Vice President of Marketing for the Kocoline Oil Company for 17 years. Over the years, he had owned the North Vernon Ponderosa, Belding Oil Company, Preferred Auto Parts, and Brian's Car Wash. Jim was also a realtor since 1978 for Century 21, Lawson Real Estate, Century 21 Pieratt/Belding, and Belding Hometown Real Estate. He loved hunting and fishing on his farm and on trips with friends.
Jim is survived by son, Brian (Jalana) Belding of North Vernon; daughters, Tina (Robert) Brison of Butlerville, and Carla Belding of Seymour; grandchildren, Shelby Richardson, Lyndsay Kelley-Pittman, Jake Patterson, Avynn, Aylah, Abrey, Addex, and Acher Belding; several great grandchildren; brother, Paul Belding of North Vernon; sister, Sheila Heath of North Vernon.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma Belding; son, Gary Wayne Hanaway; sisters, Donna Thompson and Barbara Moore.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Freedom Hunt.
