Irvin Eli Huber, 89, of North Vernon passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at his residence.
Born April 6, 1924 in Blue Creek Community near Sunman, he was the son of Harry J. and Mary Hoff Huber. He married Mary Catherine Wissel on March 31, 1951 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Morris, IN. They were married fifty seven years. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2008.
Mr. Huber was a member of St. Jacobs Church at Blue Creek and was baptized there in 1934. His was currently a member of North Vernon Church of Christ.
He moved to the Brookville area and farmed until 1971. When he left farming he moved to North Vernon. There he worked at Rose Acre Farms, True Temper Handle Factory, and Miller Construction in Lawrenceburg. He then worked at Cummins Engine Co. before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Huber loved to be busy outdoors. He still cut and split fire wood to sell, and for his own use. He enjoyed gardening, mowing, playing cards, and dancing at the senior center. He also liked to watch RFD while eating popcorn every night, and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Huber served in the US Army from 1950 - 1951, and was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA.
He is survived by six children, Judy (Kenny) Barber, John Huber, Janice (Alan) Clark, Karen (Buddy) Franks, and Kathy (David) Moore, all of North Vernon, and Juanita (Tom) Hohnstreiter of Reddington; eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary; his parents; one brother, Howard Huber; one sister, Helen Amm.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, November 4, 2013 at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with the Rev. Marcus Speer officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday and 12:30 PM until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery.
