Irvin L. Cline, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in North Vernon.  Rev. Marvin Sweet will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May  13, 2016, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at First United Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born December 14, 1931, in Jefferson County, Indiana, Irvin was the son of the late Clarence E. and Mildred Faye (Perkinson) Cline.  He graduated from Vernon High School in 1949, and married Evelyn Ash Cline on July 4, 1953.  She preceded him in death on May 27, 1999.

Irvin retired as a senior industrial engineer at Cummins in 1987.  He was a member of First United Methodist Church.  Irvin had served on the REMC Board and as Democratic Sheriff for elections in Sand Creek Township.  He enjoyed farming and woodworking.

Irvin is survived by one son, David (Teresa) Cline of Saginaw, MI; one daughter, Susan (Kevin Kent) Cline of Indianapolis; and two step-grandsons, Patrick and Ryan Kent.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mildred Cline; his wife, Evelyn Cline; and one brother, Don Thomas Cline.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church or St. Vincent Hospice.
