Mrs. Helen C. Horstman

March 29, 1918 - November 30, 2010

Helen C. Horstman, 92, of North Vernon passed away at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Jennings Health Care Center.

Born in North Vernon on March 29, 1918, Helen was the daughter of George and Blanche Thirza Arnold Heller. She married Joseph Owen Horstman May 29, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Helen graduated from Sullivan College in Louisville and worked a short time at Regal Rugs as a secretary. She worked many years in the genealogy department at the Jennings County Public Library. She was also a co-owner of Horstman's Standard Service Station in North Vernon. She was a member of First Baptist Church, was a charter member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a 4-H leader for many years, and enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, exploring old cemeteries, and yard sales.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Peggy) Horstman of Martinsville, and Matthew (Elizabeth) and Mark (Pam) Horstman of North Vernon; two daughters, Mary Ann Vaught of Commiskey and Maureen C. (Kevin) Bumgarner of Lafyette; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Edythe Wooden and Mable Dowell, and brothers, Richard and Marvin Heller.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery.
