Helen J. Hooker-DeCamp, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:14 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital in Beech Grove.
Born December 13, 1928, in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of Audley and Grace Cannon Stearns. She married William Hooker. He preceded her in death in 2005. She later married Richard DeCamp, he survives.
Helen graduated from Vernon High School in 1946 where she participated in cheerleading. She retired from Indiana National Bank after 25 years of service. Mrs. Hooker was a member of the First Baptist Church, becoming one of the founders of the Agape group. She also attended Zion Baptist Church. Helen enjoyed quilting & sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Richard DeCamp of North Vernon; two sons, Tom Hooker of Winter Springs, FL, and Tim Hooker of North Vernon; four sisters, Katie Zech of Seymour, Linda Lutz of North Vernon, Sandy Gillespie of North Vernon and Marilyn McIntosh of Lovett; five grandchildren, Andrew Hooker of North Vernon, Kim Bradley of Indianapolis, Tim Hooker II of Indianapolis, Nichole Shamblin of Morgonton, GA and Dawn Chapman of Castlerock, CO; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Hooker; a son, Daniel Hooker; two brothers, Donald and Fred Stearns and a sister Alice Edmonson.
Funeral Information
A funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011 at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
