Helen M. Bannister Fewell

Helen M. Bannister Fewell, 80, of North Vernon passed away at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Jennings Health Care Center.

Born on August 1, 1930 in Vernon, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur "Heavy" and Leora Rice Bannister. She married Bobby L. Fewell on August 10, 1949. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1996.

Helen was a 1948 graduate of North Vernon High School and Indiana University School of Nursing. She had been a registered nurse at the Schneck Memorial Hospital where she retired from after more than 20 years. She attended Dupont Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener, especially taking great pride in her day lilies. She also enjoyed knitting and hooking rugs.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Boni) Fewell of North Vernon; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren Jon Fewell of Costa Rica, Sarah Dunn and son, Jacob of Columbus, Robert Fewell and son, Sylas of Bloomington, and Chad (Bethany Maschino) Fewell and sons, Samuel and Nathan of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Information

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon with Elder Wallace Hines officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. before the service. Burial will be at the Vernon Cemetery.
