Hazel Olive Stults, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 22nd at Jennings Health Care in North Vernon. She was a resident of the North Vernon area her entire life.
Mrs. Stults was born October 15, 1917 in Jennings County the daughter of Wm. Clairmore and Elizabeth (Walton) Stout. In 1934 she was 'Miss San Jacinto' and graduated from San Jacinto in '35.
On January 16, 1959, as Hazel Hayden, she married Edward Stults who preceded her in death February 9, 1999. Also preceding her in death were a son, Richard Hayden; grandson, Curtis Hayden; great-grand son, Michael Vaughn; brothers, George and Harry Stout; and sisters, Marjorie (Lloyd) Anderson, Nellie (Earl) Shonk, Mabel (John) Lyons, Marie (Herbert) Holmes and Myrtle (Abe) Schneider.
Survivors include a son, Wm. Keith Hayden and his wife, Carol, of North Vernon and Apache Junction, AZ; step-children David Stults of Westport, IN, Tom Stults of Yukon, Oklahoma, John Stults and Rachel (Stults) Wade of Columbus, Naomi (Stults) Whitt of Lexington, KY; grandchildren: Andrew Hayden of Bloomington, IN, Pamela (Hayden) and Jeff Stachelek, Carmel, CA, Douglas Hayden and Richard Hayden both of Westport, IN, Dina (Hayden) and Arkie Vaughn and Mark (Crystal) Hayden, North Vernon; several step-grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grand children as well as nieces and nephews.
Before retiring, Mrs. Stults was a cashier for many years at the North Vernon Jay C store. Prior to that in the 1950's she owned and operated Hayden Grocery on O & M Ave. and also worked at Regal Rugs, Inc.
She was a member of the Graham Baptist Church.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon, with Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. and from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.
