Harriett Josephine "Jo" Kellar Brauer, daughter of Fred and Kate Stewart Kellar and widow of Earl A. Brauer was born in Washington, IN, December 14, 1920.
Jo lived the majority of her life in Indianapolis, though she lived in Vernon until age 6 and returned to Jennings County at age 79. After graduating from Arsenal Technical High School, Jo worked in the Accounts Payable Department of L.S. Ayres and later at the Finance Center at Fort Harrison. Jo served many years as a volunteer at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. She loved to read, play cards and travel. Jo and Earl Brauer were married on October 19, 1946. She was widowed in 1978. Jo was a homemaker and belonged to Lawrence United Methodist Church before joining North Vernon First United Methodist Church. She also attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Kurt and Fritz Brauer; nieces, Carolyn Hamilton (Mike) Bunn of Salt Lake City, UT, Susan Hall (Stephen) Heitzman of Jennings County; nephew Mark A. (Autumn) Hall of Maryville, TN, and two Brauer nephews of Texas; nine great and six great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; an infant brother, Fred; sister, Dorothy Kellar Hall; and nephew, Tim S. "Jackie" Hall of Syracuse, NY.
Funeral Information
Jo's ashes will be interred at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, and a memorial service will be held on at 2:30 p.m. on December 21, 2014, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
