Hans A. Johansen, 87, of Butlerville, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at his residence.

Born January 26, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, Hans was the son of the late Hans and Margaret (Wroth) Johansen, Sr. He graduated from Mantua Village High School in Mantua, OH, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, and an outstanding basketball, football and baseball player. He attended Hiram College in Hiram, OH. He married Helen Perkins on September 23, 2006 in North Vernon. She survives.

Hans served for one summer in the United States Coast Guard, where he was stationed on the SS Olds in the Great Lakes. He worked as an engineering manager at Samuel Moore Co. in Mantua, OH, and at Panasote in Seymour. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, and had formerly been active in the North Vernon Kiwanis Club. In Mantua, he was township trustee and a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts. He traveled every year for more than 40 years to camp in the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. As a young man, he built his own home from a home kit, and enjoyed assembling Heath Radio Kits.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Perkins) Johansen of Butlerville; three sons, John (Kathy) Johansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eric (Jane) Johansen of Indianapolis, and Quinton Johansen of Plainville, Connecticut; three stepsons, Mark (Julie) Perkins of Boulder, Colorado, Gary (Alice) Perkins of North Vernon, John (Dana) Perkins of Lebanon, Ohio; a sister, Nancy Lamb of Cincinnati; a niece, Cathy (John) Shibley of Belton, Texas; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Steve Lamb; and grandson, Steven Litzy.
