Gerald William Speer, 81, of North Vernon passed from this life on August 17, 2025, peacefully at home.

Born August 18, 1943, he was the son of the late Clarence and Mildred (Streit) Speer. He married Carolyn (Robinson) Speer on July 31st, 1964. She survives.

Gerald was a US Army veteran serving from 1960 to 1963. He spent a majority of his life as a long-haul truck driver until he retired in 2005. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching old westerns and Colts football, and playing darts with his niece DeAnna.

Gerald is survived by his wife; daughter, Carla Cartwright of North Vernon; grandchildren, Ashley Cartwright and Jeffrey B. Cartwright all of North Vernon, and Brian Speer Jr. of Mount Juliet, TN; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Derrek Carlock of Madison, Brian Cartwright of North Vernon and Hudson Liam and Ainsley Speer of Mount Juliet, TN; brothers, James (Joan) Speer, Joe Lee, Michael (Evelyn) Robinson and George Robinson; sisters, Carol (Larry) Anthony, Linda (Steve) Schwein, Kathy Rose, Mary Gholson, Janice Perry, Joy Lee, Joyce Buchanan, Barbara (Dennis) Ryker and Nancy (Rick) Juengst.

He is preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, George and Lucille Robinson; son, Brian Speer; brothers, Kenneth Speer, Fred Robinson, Edward Robinson and Walter Robinson; sisters Mary Hunt, Lois Robinson and Beverly Lee.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
